About Papier Maverick
Brighton-based artist Ann Blackburn has been making things in papier mache for over 30 years. She combines humour, feminism and all-round weirdness to create figures to make you smile, make you think or possibly raise an eyebrow.
Using old newspaper and reclaimed boxes, cylinders and odds and ends, Ann creates robust, unique pieces that are kind to the environment. “I don’t want to waste resources and I love the fact you can make more or less anything from glue, old newspaper and stuff that would be thrown away otherwise. The only limit is your imagination.”
Ann studied fine art in the early eighties. Having picked up papier mache in the late eighties, she took it up seriously in 2020.
Ann’s meticulous work is usually on show at a couple of places during the year and she's available for commissions.
